HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program

HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and/or other safety regulatory authorities, HP announced voluntary recalls and replacement programs for some of the battery packs used in certain HP notebooks.

HP and the battery manufacturers believe that certain battery packs shipped in some notebook PC products may pose a potential safety hazard to customers. The batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard.

We are taking this action as part of our commitment to provide the highest quality of service to our notebook customers. We are proactively notifying you of this issue and are prepared to replace all verified, affected battery packs.

Getting Started

If your notebook is listed on this program website, determine whether this recall program affects your battery by following these steps:

  1. Print a copy of these steps for your reference which will assist you in collecting the relevant information to determine if you are part of this program.
  2. Save and close all open programs. Shut down your notebook.
  3. Remove any external power source.
  4. Remove the battery from the notebook.
    Note:

    • For assistance in removal of the battery, refer to the user guide supplied with the notebook.
    •
    • The notebook will function using AC power without a battery pack installed in the notebook.
  5. Locate and record the bar code label on the battery. Potentially affected battery bar code ids will match or start with the following characters (by program). In some cases, these characters may be preceded by CT:
Note: If your battery pack bar code label does not match or start with one of the codes identified below your battery is not part of these programs
Affected batteries will match the patterns below based on the program announcement dates. The ^ can be a number, character or a letter. Not all batteries with bar codes matching the patterns below are actually affected.
